This classic polar bear adventure has been sharing this experience since 1989, providing travelers with the opportunity to view polar bears from our buggies during two day-long outings and one evening journey to the tundra. Through years of experience, we have determined that this offers just the right amount of time with bears – long enough for nature enthusiasts to keep their excitement, but not too long to the point of monotony. During the daytime, wildlife activity is well documented – young males play fight, mother bears cautiously explore with their cubs at their sides, and solitary adults lumber across the tundra. But it is the rare traveler indeed who has the opportunity to experience the tundra at night, when the northern environs provide an eerie and remote adventure, and a possible chance to catch a sight of the remarkable aurora borealis – the northern lights.
Day 1

Winnipeg
Upon arrival you will be transferred to our hotel where we gather for an informal orientation dinner at 7:00pm.
Day 2

Churchill
This morning, we fly to Churchill. We will have an evening presentation on polar bears and the northern environs presented by our professional staff of naturalists and scientists.
Day 3-4

Churchill
These days will be spent exploring the tundra on our Tundra Vehicles where we will view bears and other wildlife. We travel outside of town by bus and meet our vehicles at a special boarding site. Although the vehicles can accommodate an average of 35 passengers, we only take 15, allowing everyone to have a window seat and plenty of room to store gear. Your Expedition Leader will then begin his/her nature interpretation, explaining how polar bears thrive in such a harsh environment. From the warmth and comfort of our vehicle, we may see mothers and cubs as well as young adult males playfighting. The interaction of these animals is fascinating and our leader will make sure that we see as much as possible. In the evenings, we gather for a well-deserved meal before our leaders offer an evening presentation on wildlife or local cultures.
Day 5

Churchill
We take a day tour of historic Churchill and then head out to the tundra in the evening for nighttime bear viewing and dinner on the vehicle. During our daytime exploration, we may visit local sled dogs as we make our way to Cape Merry where Arctic fox and Arctic hare tend to appear. If the skies are clear, our nighttime tundra excursion may provide one of the most exhilarating travel experiences possible -- a rare chance to view the northern lights away from the glare of town. Amidst the seclusion and darkness of the subarctic tundra, the lights begin as white streaks across the northern sky, then begin to dance and flicker in a myriad of colors, creating a captivating natural light show. We return late in the evening having experienced the true north!
Day 6

Winnipeg
Our return flights to Winnipeg are scheduled to depart in the mid to late afternoon (weather permitting) to give our travelers as much time as possible to explore this remote and intriguing town, pick up last-minute crafts and souvenirs, or if time allows, participate in an optional helicopter journey over the tundra or an authentic dog sledding excursion.
