India

India has three major seasons: winter, summer and monsoon. The winter months (November-March) are pleasant throughout India with bright sunny days. In the Northern plains, the minimum temperature drops steeply and there is snowfall in hills. In Maharashtra, the south and eastern India, however, December and January are pleasantly cool, never very cold.

The summer months (April-June) are hot in most parts of India, and it is during this season that hill resorts such as Simla, Musoorie, Nainital, Kullu and the Kashmir Valley, Darjeeling, Shilong, Ootaccamund, Kodaikanal, Pachmarhi, and Mount Abu provide cool retreats.

The south-west monsoon usually breaks about the beginning of June on the west coast and reaches elsewhere later. With the exception of the south-eastern areas, India receives the major share of its rainfall between June and September. The south-eastern areas receive most of the rainfall from the north-east monsoon between mid-October and December-end.

Traditionally, India has been most popular in the winter months. However, with easy availability of air-conditioned hotels, transport and leisure facilities (such as dining and shopping), the summer months too have become popular, and India has become a year-round tourist destination.

Nepal

Nepal's climate varies with its topography and altitude. It ranges from tropical to arctic. The Terai region, which lies in the tropical southern part of the country, for instance, has a hot, humid climate. The mid-land regions are pleasant almost all the year round, although winter nights are cool. The northern mountain region, around an altitude above 3,353m. has an alpine climate with a considerably lower temperature in winter as can be expected.

Nepal Temperature & Rain Fall

Realize that Nepal is the country of extremes. The low-land plains of the Tarai can have tropical tempuratures and the misquitoes to go with them. The Himalaya's can get to sub-zero tempuratures, but the sun can blaze you during the day, even in the mountains. So, to be prepare, it really depends on your travel plans. Check out our sponsors to see what they recommend to bring in each given season for each of your travel plans. One note: Monsoon in Nepal is not the typical monsoon of Asia. Rains usually occur during the night-time and clear the skies for incrediable views during the day-time of the off-season.
