
The French people incorporate formality and sophistication into their everyday lives. It is not at all uncommon to see them greet one another by cheek kissing or with a formal handshake. Of the people that make up the French population, 90 percent of them are native French. With this strong historical tie, pride greatly accompanies the French culture, and they expect guests to treat them with the utmost respect.
Although at times people in the larger cities have been perceived as rude, for the most part they greet tourists with open arms and relish in the pride and the dignity of their country.
Christianity is an enormous part of the French lives, as illustrated by the plethora of cathedrals and basilicas throughout the country. Ninety percent of the French people are Roman Catholic.
French sexuality is seen as liberal by American standards. Relations between the sexes are very flirtatious, and not at all confrontational. French TV does not hesitate to illustrate sexuality and show nudity on their shows.
The language most widely spoken throughout the region is French. Smaller regions also incorporate their own languages including Flemish, Alsation, Breton, Basque, Catalan, Provençal, and Corsican.
France is a democracy with its capital resigning in Paris. Jacques Chirac is the president and Lionel Jospin is the esteemed Prime Minister.
