With long summer days and mild temperatures, central Argentina lies in a temperate zone which helps to maintain a relatively stable and mild climate. To the north, tropical weather prevails with a humid northeast and an arid northwest toward the Andes. Heading south toward the Antarctic, colder temperatures and wind abound. Visit Patagonia and the Southern Andes in the summer when the cold recesses and return to the north during the winter as tropical temperatures drop a few degrees.
Summer extends from December to March with an average daily temperature between 25ºC and 32ºC (76ºF - 85ºF) while winter lasts from June to September with average temperatures between 0ºC and 10ºC (32ºF - 50ºF). With a variety of climactic zones and topography, Argentina offers tropics, subtropical forests, swamps, arid land and steppes.
North
As a result of its vast north-south extension and vertical topography, Chile has nearly every imaginable variety of climates. The only exception is the moist tropical climate typical of equatorial nations. In the north we find the world's driest desert known as the Atacama, where in some parts of this land area, rain has actually never been recorded. True to the desert climate, there is a great variation between daytime and nighttime temperatures.
CENTRAL
The coast enjoys a mild climate year-round, while in the northern high plains, summer temperatures average 10°C (50°F) during the day and drop to as low as 13°C (8°F) at night. The climate of the central region is of that blessed variety known as subtropical Mediterranean, with long, dry summers (November-March, the high reaches 30-33°C or 86-92°F) and short, mild, relatively rainy winters (max. temperature, 10-15°C or 50-60°F, min. temperature rarely below O°C or 32°F).
SOUTH
South of the Bio Bio rainfall increases, falling steadily throughout the year. Here visitors will find that the temperature variation is less between daytime and nighttime. However, the weather in Patagonia, an area further south, can vary greatly and is often wet, cold and windy. Throughout the country, the proximity of the Pacific and the Andes creates numerous pockets of localized weather patterns known as microclimates.
ISLANDS
The weather of both Easter Island and Robinson Crusoe is extremely pleasant throughout the year.
