The 160-room Winchester Mystery House was built continuously for 38-years under the obsessive-compulsive direction of Winchester Rifle heiress Sarah Winchester. Ornate chandeliers and inlaid parquet floors surround its odd features such as stairs that lead to the ceiling and doors that open into walls. Supposedly the house was haunted, at least Sarah thought so, and a medium helped to convince her that continuous construction would keep the evil spirits at bay. Open daily 9am-5pm.
