First opened to the public in 1899 thanks to the efforts of the New York Zoological Society (now the Wildlife Conservation Society), the Bronx Zoo remains the flagship of the largest network of metropolitan zoos in the country. With exhibits featuring over 4,000 animals, finding some of the world's most amazing wildlife at your fingertips is an easy task... unlike tracking these same animals in their natural habitat. The zoo is deeply rooted and involved in conservation, with links going back to saving bison in the zoo's first year of existence.
