Harlem's Apollo Theater is a legendary national landmark that has gone from a swanky, yet glorified strip joint in 1913, to an amazing music venue featuring artists such as beautiful Billie Holliday. Currently, the theater, after reopening in 1983, draws acclaimed performers, and still hosts the wild Wednesday Amateur night (where no heckling or booing is allowed!). A tour of the theater is available daily for $8, and includes a journey through the backstage area and the opportunity to touch the good-luck Tree of Hope. The theater's gift shop carries plenty of souvenirs and memorabilia.
