Minnesota is affectionatelly known as "the State of hockey" and "the land of 10,000 rinks" to hockey-loving natives, and rightly so. Minnesota is frozen more months than not and many Minnesota-born hockey stars have started out as just little tikes skating around in their backyards. The state was duly crushed, however, when the beloved Minnesota North Stars were sold to Dallas in 1993, maddening the locals who thought the game would be lost on sun-worshipping Texans. Finally in 2000 Minnesota's begrudging patience paid off as they were finally granted the Wilds, much to everyone's delight.
