The Pikes Peak area is blessed with plenty of natural and manmade wonders.
Departing the Cherry Creek area, we head south on Interstate 25, leaving the metropolitan area behind and travel through several miles of countryside where many new homes are being constructed. We pass the town of Castle Rock, named for an interesting rock formation.
Our first stop is at the United States Air Force Academy where we visit the visitors center first for refreshments, a little gift shopping and perhaps the movie on the cadets and the school. Be sure to see the displays of the student rooms and other facets of student life. We then visit the Cadet Chapel, the most visited manmade tourist attraction in Colorado.
We then travel through the Garden of the Gods park, where we will view beautiful sandstone formations. Lunch is provided and specially prepared for our group at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post.
From there it's up Pikes Peak for a journey to the top of this famous mountain at an elevation of 14,110 feet above sea level! Be sure to take a sweater or jacket and water to drink on this exciting adventure!
