West End Historic District

West End Historic District Approx. Time: 3 hours
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate

The West End Historic District is a large stretch of land outside of downtown Dallas. The "founder" of the Dallas, John Neely Bryan attained this land from the Caddo Indians in the mid eighteen hundreds and created a trading post. When the Houston & Texas Central Railroad rolled through in 1872, it inspired an increase in manufacturing and created a slue of warehouses.

During the economic decline of railroad use in the 1950's, the West End District was in distress. It gained national attention after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dealey Plaza, near the West End Historic District.

This area was named a National Historical Landmark in the 1970's and was a highly regarded tourist destination in the city of Dallas.

Other nearby attractions include: The Sixth Floor Museum, The American Museum of Miniature Arts, The Dallas World Aquarium, The West End Marketplace, Dealey Plaza, The Old Red Courthouse, and The John Neely Bryan Cabin.
