The Old Red Courthouse was built in 1893 as the main government building in town. The Courthouse is made of Pecos red sandstone, Texas red granite, and Arkansas blue granite. Originally a clock tower was built in the center of the building but was removed in 1919 because the reverberations of the bell were too strong and many feared it would damage the buildings structure.
This is the courthouse where Jack Ruby was convicted in 1964 for the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald.
This property was donated to John Neely Bryan and now houses the Visitors Bureau, Visitor Information Center, and the Dallas Convention.
