The Rural Hill Plantation been located in Charlotte since 1735. The original owner, Major John Davidson, was a leading citizen of the Mecklenburg Country during the mid 1700’s. A fire destroyed the house in 1886 and little was left of the property but the remains of the main house, smokehouse, ash house, crib, well house, two schoolhouses, a family cemetery, and a grainery. This historic site is an example of the type of atmosphere a wealthy family lived in during the eighteenth century.
