It's all about the witches in spooky Salem, as you'll see at the Salem Witch Museum and many other witch trial related attractions. However, there were never any witches that lived in Salem in 1692, aside from in the creative minds of the teenagers whose silly (yet frighteningly believable!) accusations resulted in the hangings of nineteen local women and the stoning of one man. Salem became Massachusetts' first colony in the 1500s, to which the rickety aged architecture attests.
