Charlestown was settled before the city of Boston originated, but became part of Boston in later years. Site of the famous Revolutionary Battle of Bunker Hill, the area is now home to Old Iron Sides (U.S.S. Constitution), the Navy's oldest warship and the skyreaching Bunker Hill Monument that is open for ascending. Architecture buffs will be delighted by the old architecture from the medieval turrets indicative of Queen Anne styling to the triangular doorway pediments of the Greek Revival period.
