Malmebury House was originally a 13th century canonry. The west facade, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, was added after 1698 to accommodate rooms displaying magnificent rococo plasterwork. Amongst the many illustrious visitors to the house, the most important were King Charles II and the composer, Handel, who used the chapel above the St Ann Gate for recitals. Frances Webb, a direct ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II, lived here in the 1770s.
