Oxford University's Museum of Fine and Applied Art and Archaeology. Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean is the oldest museums in Britain and the largest in the country. Housed in a beautiful classical building of the 1840s are the priceless collections of the University of Oxford, European and Oriental art, silver and ceramics, together with outstanding objects from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.
