Glasgow became a university city in 1451. Glasgow University is Scotland's second oldest University and now a major focus of scientific research in the U.K. The original buildings were constructed near the High Street. In 1870 the University moved to its current location on Gilmorehill in the West End of the city. Today the University has Faculties covering the Arts, Divinity, Engineering, Law, Science, Social Science, Medicine, Education, Computing and Veterinary Science.
