The history of Cardiff Castle spans nearly 2000 years since the Romans first settled the site. Roman, Norman and subsequent development has left a rich architectural legacy for the visitor to enjoy. During the 19th century the castle was restored by the architect William Burgess and within the towers he created for the third Marquess of Bute are many richly decorated interiors.
