Canterbury Cathedral was founded in the year 597 and is the Mother church of the Anglican communion. It has a perpendicular nave, central tower (the Bell Harry), St Augustine's Chair, 12thC Gothic quire, notable stained glass windows and a Romanesque crypt. The Cathedral is the site of the Archbishop Thomas Becket's martyrdom in 1170, whose shrine became one of the most visited by pilgrims in the Middle Ages.
