Transvaal Museum of Natural History Approx. Time: 4 hours
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate

The Transvaal Museum of Natural History houses many fine South African collections. The Transvaal Museum in Pretoria is famous for Mrs Ples, a 2,5-million-year-old Australopithecus africanus skull found perfectly preserved at Sterkfontein in 1947. Exhibits depict the origin and development of life in Southern Africa, from the most primitive unicellular form of life to the emergence of mammals and the first human beings. Its collection of early human fossils is of international significance.
