Situated halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay is the largest seaside resort of the World Famous Garden Route. The area is popular holiday town as it encased in a sunbathed peninsula and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The town has a fascinating history as it began in 1488 as a thriving port and was used mostly by the Dutch and the Portuguese. Some of the most popular sites in Mossel Bay include the Post Office Tree, a giant Millwood tree close to the fresh springs of the area, the tree once acted as a ‘Post Office’ where ship’s captains would leave letters for each other and is now a national monument, and the Bartholomeu Dias Museum complex, a Maritime Museum named after the city’s founder.
