Nearest to the town of Oudtshoorn, The Little Karoo lies sheltered between the great Swartberg Mountain range in the north and the Outeniqua and Langeberg Mountains in the south and stretches from Montagu in the west to De Rust in the east. This valley offers dramatic mountain passes such as the Swartberg Pass which winds it's way over the Swartberg Mountain, Elands road bending to "The Hell" and spectacular rock formations found in the Meiringspoort. The Little Karoo region has many areas to explore some of the rewarding and varied attractions in South Africa. In the city of Qudtshoorn, for example, attractions include architecture with exceptional stone masonry; ostriches, the area is famous for its ‘farms’ that offer an up-close look at these birds; The Cango Caves, one of the world’s natural wonders; cheetah and crocodile breeding stations; as well as astounding rivers and falls throughout the area. For visitors traveling through in March or April there is also the Klein Karoo National Arts festival, where many art lovers gather for dancing, films, cabaret, classical music, comedy, contemporary music, open air concerts, plays, literary art and poetry.
