Knysna HeadsApprox. Time: 4 hours
Activity Level: Moderate

The Heads, a pair of sandstone cliffs flanking the channel where the sea meets the Knysan lagoon, guard the passage through which many trading vessels sailed to the wide ocean beyond. Both the Heads have their own personality and attractions. The western Head is more undeveloped than its eastern counterpart, however, it includes the Featherbed Nature Reserve to which visitors can visit via ferry trips and guided trails. The eastern Head offers a small beach and holds the NSRI aquarium. Walkways along the eastern Head allow for some of the amazing views of the lagoon and the channel, and there are also caves to peek in along the way. A restaurant and coffee shop is conveniently located at the top of the eastern Head to refresh wary travelers.
