Knysna, located in the heart of the Garden Route and on the banks of a lagoon, make it a natural paradise complete with forests, lakes, and beaches. The area is also the home of the only forest elephant in South Africa. Knysna also boasts unique seahorses and Pansy shells in the lagoon while Humpbacks and Southern Right whales can be seen along the coast from May to December (dolphins usually visit year-round). The area’s forests form the largest closed-canopy forest in South Africa and, along with the Knysna Head located in the lagoon, are two of the most popular tourist destinations of the area.
