Durban beach, also known as the Golden Mile, stretches along the length of Marine Parade and is easily accessible by many city roads. The area has a holiday feel as many locals retreat to the beach over the weekends to enjoy the warm Indian Ocean and the bustling flea market on the northern end of the Lower Marine Parade, which sells everything from Indian crafts to food. The actual beach has specifically designated areas for surfing, boogie boarding and swimming, as well as protective shark nets and lifeguards.
