Just a short jaunt outside of town stands this very distinct seaside village. Actually a short train ride from Cape Town, Kalk Bay is a unique fishing village with a picturesque pub (The Brass Bell). It was a "gray area" under apartheid, which means it was free from racial zoning laws. Go at around 1pm to watch the fishermen offload their catch and you can buy your supper straight from the boat. The narrow main street is renowned for antique and art shops which make fascinating browsing.Courtesy of the South Africa Tourism Board
