This exquisite mausoleum is a splendorous example of modern Moroccan architecture and a beautiful tribute to the modern monarchy. The construction of the mausoleum began in 1962 as a monument to Sultan Mohammed V, who had led Morocco to independence six years earlier. The exterior is comprised of a magnificent white marble pavilion surmounted by a roof of green tiles. Inside, the exquisitely crafted burial chamber contains his white onyx tomb standing on a slab of granite.Courtesy of the Morocco Tourism Board
