The Hassan Tower is Rabat's most famous site. Designed by El Mansour as the centerpiece of the new capital, the Hassan Tower was to be the second largest mosque in the Muslim world. Unfortunately, work on the tower was terminated shortly after El Mansour's death in 1199. Today, the Hassan Tower stands an impressive 44 meters high and is richly decorated by intricate, stone-carved geometric designs on each side.
