Moulay Idriss is an old mountain town with white buildings and friendly, peace-wishing inhabitants. The city is known as Morocco’s holiest city, as it houses the shrine honoring the beginnings of Moroccan Islam. The town takes its name from its founder, Morocco’s most venerated saint and the creator of its first Arab dynasty. Although non-Muslims are not allowed to stay overnight it the city because it is built around Moulay Idriss’ tomb, the most impressive site –the view from the highest spot in the old city - can be reached during a day trip.
