Imperial CityApprox. Time: 3 hours
Activity Level: Moderate

Conceived under the reign of Moulay Ismael in the 17th century, The Imperial City was to be an impregnable fortress, protected by several sets of thick stone walls, populated by 24 royal palaces, open-air pavilions, and decorative gardens. The complex's first attraction, a sprawling, serene pavilion just inside the gates, conceals the presence of a series of subterranean dungeons and labyrinthine passageways which have recently been opened to the public. The complex also houses an exultant shrine to Moulay Ismael and depicts the great esteem held for the eminent sultan by the Moroccan people.
