The world's largest mosque until the construction of the King Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, this holy shrine still governs Islam's most renowned festivals and holidays. The 9th century mosque's enormous dimensions offer a capacity of 20,000 worshippers, although its interior goes unseen by many tourists, since, according to tradition, non-Muslims are not allowed to pass through its reverent gates.
