  Travel in Sibiloi National Park

Travel in Sibiloi National Park Located on the northeastern shore of Lake Turkana close to the Ethiopian border, this is the most remote park managed by Kenya Wildlife Services. Most famous for discoveries in the late 60's and early 70's of fossils of early man- Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus- between 1-3 million years old, by Dr. Richard Leakey and other researches, including Kamoya Kimeu. Since then, it has yielded the world's richest finds of hominids, 160 in all. The area, together with Olduvai, in northern Tanzania, is recognized as having unlocked man's earliest known origins and also as being the original area from which modern man spread to inhabit the five continents of the world over 200,000 thousand years ago. Thousands of pre-historic mammal fossils and early human artifacts have been uncovered within the parks boundaries. Koobi Fora, site of the world-famous prehistoric museum and research base is within the Park. Great herds of zebra, topi, lion cheetah, leopard, kudu and other lesser species abound.
