
An unspoiled mountain forest, home to over 2000 elephants, buffalo, leopards, colobus and blue monkeys, the giant forest hog, waterbuck and many species of antelope. There are four explorable caves- Ngwarisha, Makinyen, Chepnyalil and Kitum, which is known as the place of ceremonies, and extends 200 m into the mountain. The later is safe during the day, but at night the elephants enter to feed off the rich salt deposits Mountain climbing on Mt. Elgon (4,200m) at Koitobos, features a moorland and hot springs. Also visit the Kitale Museum which is located in Kitale town.
