An island located between the northern and southern shores of Lake Turkana, it is a small retreat to thousands of crocodiles. The island is actually a dormant volcano that occasionally emits sulphurous steam and smoke. It is a symbolic relic of the massive upheavals that occurred in the earth's crust 10 million years ago, opening a huge geological divide stretching over 3,500 miles from Ethopia's northern Red Sea coastline to Mozambique, and that is now known as the Great Rift Valley.
