Geihinkan boasts an exterior modeled on Buckingham Palace and Palace of Versailles as its interior. The State Guesthouse served as a detached palace for the Imperial Household during the Meiji period (1868-1912). It underwent major remodeling in 1974 and has since been used as a guesthouse for foreign dignitaries. The building is not open to the public.
