This temple is listed as the fourth of the five Kamakura temples. It was founded in 1281 by Hojo Munemasa's wife and son Morotoki. The moss-covered entrance steps and the main gate with its bell tower attract tourists to this site. This temple belongs to the Engakuji faction of the Rinzai Buddhist sect.
