Hakone - Owakudani Valley

Hakone - Owakudani Valley Approx. Time: 3 hours
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate

Mt.Kami is the highest peak in the Hakone mountains. Having erupted 3000 years ago and forming a crater in the Hakone mountains it spouts hot vapor and sulfide to this day. Once known as Oojigoku (hell or grand hell), it was renamed "Oowakudani" before the Meiji emperor's visit in 1876. It was believed inauspicious for the Emperor to visit a place called "hell". The grand view of Mt. Fuji can be enjoyed from this spot.
