Exhibits of the Shishi (mythical lion) dance are featured here. This dance is part of many Japanese festivals, especially those of central and northern Japan. Those of the Hida region around Takayama are considered particularly fine examples. In this museum, located in the Sakuramachi district, over 800 lion masks are on display alongside drums and other items related to festivals. At regular intervals throughout the day, there is a video presentation of typical local folk dances and a demonstration of automaton dolls. This program lasts approximately 15 mins.
