The Nagoya Castle, which is the symbol of the city, is famous for the golden dolphins adorning its rooftop and dates back to 1612. The castle is surrounded by acres of parkland, including a small teahouse in a traditional Japanese garden, and is the first stop for most visitors to the city. The park is closed between December 29 and January 1, but on all other days park hours are from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
