Maruyama Park is known for its beautifully landscaped garden. Its cherry blossoms in spring are a magnificent sight to see. Yasaka Shrine, affectionately called 'Gion-san' by the throngs of regular devotees, features one of the tallest Torii gates (1666) in Japan, and an unusual main hall built in the residential 'Gion zukuri' style (1654).
