As the name suggests, the Samurai resided in this district. The Samurai district is located in Nagamachi, which is a precinct about ten minutes walk from Kanazawa's central business district. Many of these residences still exist in Nagamachi, their beautiful gardens remain crouched behind elegant walls of pressed mud and bamboo. The descendants of the highly respected samurai live in and maintain these dwellings as if it is nothing extraordinary, and some have begun to allow visitors into their homes to view the house, garden and some of the armory of their family. The streets have been repaved with stone slabs and the mud walls are repaired and maintained as they always have been. The tour takes you through the precinct and to the Nomura family's residence, where the Nomura's will serve tea and show everybody around. Courtesy of Japan Tourism Board.
