Made by reconstructing a mountain castle from the Mori Motonari era, an observation platform opened on Mt.Takanojo (438 m) in Hiroshima City Forest Park on April 12, 1997. The castle was constructed based on historical evidence from the period, and consists of a 10-meter-tall keep, intermediate outworks, outermost outworks, watch lodge, tower gates, and roofed gates. The features of mountain castles from the Middle Ages are implemented effectively, letting visitors see how castles appeared at that time. From here visitors can get a full 360-degree panoramic view, permitting them to see the downtown area of Hiroshima, as well as Miyajima (one of Japan's three most scenic places) to the west and the Yoshida district (Motonari's stronghold) to the north.
