Travel in Turin Turin is located in north west Italy on the bank of the Po river. Turin is the capital of the Piedmont region. Turin most recently known for hosting the 2006 winter olympics. It is also home to the famous Shroud of Turin.
Turin was founded in the 1st century B.C. and has gone through numerous wars and changes of hands, but always remained a central focus of Northern Italy.
Turin sites include the Mole Antonelliana, which contains the Cinema Museum of Italy. Turin also has its famous Egyptian antiquities collection in the Museo Egizio. The old Palatine Towers are still in existance maintaining Turin's connection with the Roman past. As for achitecture, Turin like most Italian cities has it aplenty! There are the Savoy Residences as well as the list of palaces and castles: Palazzo Cahiblese, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Carignano, Valentino Castle and teh castles of Rivoli, Moncalierei, Venaria, Aglie, Racconigi and Grovone.
Turin has more to offer than just castles and palaces as well. There is the church of Superga, the Royal armory and Royal Library.
All in all Turin is an enchanting mix of Medieval, Roman and Renisiance in a modern setting.
