The Santa Maria dell Salute Church (or church of health) is Venice's most visible church and one of its most beautiful. An enormous example of Baroque architecture built in thanks for delivery from the plague (although over a third of the city had fallen victim) the Salute stands at the tip of Dorsudoro right behind the Dogana (old customs house). The tip of land extending from the Dogana into the lagoon affords perhaps the most beautiful vista of Venice and Piazza San Marco.
