There is no place in Rome that has as many monuments and arches on such a short stretch of road as the Via Sacra. By way of the Via Sacra, heroes walked across the Roman Forum onto the Capitol. This road was the setting for many of the deeds and misdeeds of Rome's history, solemn religious festivals, magnificent triumphs of victorious generals, and a daily throng assembled in the Basilicas to chat, throw dice, engage in business, or secure justice.
