Caserta Vecchia, with its picturesque streets, remains a well-preserved medieval town. It is perhaps most popular for its architectural beauty. The Cathedral is an example of Southern Norman architecture, which dates from 1123-53. The little church of the Annunziata was built in the 12th century under Gothic influence. The ruins of the 13th century Castello lie to the east.
