Part of the Borromean archipelago and home to an exotic garden of plants, birds and flowers, this magical island is considered a botanical garden on water.
The favourable micro-climate and man's care make visitors think they are in a subtropical environment, rich in rare plants, exotic flowers, animals, and above all free-roaming iridescent birds of all kinds. The garden is one of the most suggestive for the luxuriant vegetation and the variety of its plants. It serves as a backdrop to another Borromeo palace dating back to 1590. It is considered to be one of the oldest and most important gardens in Italy. Its realisation in fact goes back to before the XVI century, when work began to transform the olive groves already present in a picturesque garden. Later, it was turned into an English Garden and since then has undergone several other transformations to be what it is today.
