Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio Approx. Time: 1 hours
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate

Florence's most famous and distinctive bridge, the Ponte Vecchio is unique in all Italy. The world was done a great favor when at the close of the Second World War the German general occupying the city directly disobeyed his orders and refused to destroy Florence’s oldest and most recognizable bridge. The Ponte Vecchio ("old bridge") is more a shopping street than a bridge, as it is a pedestrian only thoroughfare lined with countless (and expensive) jewelry shops and gold dealers. The street too is filled with dozens of individual craftsmen hawking their wares.
