Leaning Tower of Pisa

Standing 117 feet tall, the Leaning Tower of Pisa has been sinking since 1174, when building began. Even though it was evident at that time that it was leaning, building was continued and finished in 1372. The tower serves as a curiosity and tourist attraction, but it also has a practical purpose - it actually is a bell tower. Today it can be viewed from the outside, but entrance has been blocked since 1990. Currently work is being done to strengthen the foundation.
