The most recognizable (and imposing) of Florence’s many palaces, known as the Palazzo Vecchio is situated at one end of Piazza della Signoria. Still the administrative heart of the city, the Palazzo is most impressive from outside where one can rest in the sculpture studded shade of the adjoining Loggia (don’t miss some of the masterpieces here such as the Perseus or the Rape of the Sabine Women). Tourists and Florentines alike can be seen in any of the surrounding cafe’s watching the world go by.
